Ukraine has the potential to be a global contributor to next-gen therapies

Mission
BioGENext is a collaborative initiative, created as an academia-industry partnership with a mission to strengthen Ukraine’s biomedical ecosystem and unite all the society to advance next-generation therapeutics research and development.
Goal
Our aim is to create a collaborative platform, which will bring together scientists, industry leaders, educational institutions and government representatives to unite the efforts and facilitate collaborations in educational, research, development and legal projects inside Ukraine and with the global research community.
Vision
By promoting next-generation therapeutics, advancing education in biotechnology, and cultivating dialogue among key stakeholders, BioGENext aims to contribute to the formation of a robust innovation ecosystem capable of addressing both local and global healthcare challenges.
Approach
By organising focused scientific conferences, educational events, contributing to the development of educational programs and legislation initiatives and supporting various important community initiatives, bioGENext aims to contribute to the formation of a robust biomedical innovation ecosystem in Ukraine, capable of addressing both local and global healthcare challenges.

Why we initiated BioGENext

The BioGENext initiative emerged from a shared understanding of the challenges faced by academic and industrial researchers in Ukraine, and the need to empower them to advance biomedical science and stand shoulder to shoulder with the global scientific community developing next-generation therapies.

We identified several key areas that required systemic support:

Knowledge
Access to expertise and experience across cutting-edge biomedical and bioengineering fields.
Education
Modern, high-quality academic programs that reflect current directions in biomedical science.
Resources
Availability of equipment, reagents, and up-to-date research protocols and methodologies.
Regulation
Establishment of an efficient, transparent technology transfer and commercialization framework.
Integration
Deeper connection with the international biomedical and biopharmaceutical research ecosystem.

Progress begins with partnership and a shared strategy

We saw an opportunity to unite efforts and address the identified needs through strong partnerships between academic and industrial laboratories and by shifting the focus of Ukraine’s innovation strategy toward biotechnology and biopharmaceutical development.
November 2023

A strategic partnership between the R&D Division of YURіA-PHARM and the Institute of Molecular Biology and Genetics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine laid the foundation for what would become

the BioGENext initiative
The initiative began with the BioGENext Conference on Next-Generation Therapies in September 2024

— the first event of its kind in Ukraine. The conference brought together academia, industry, and government to foster collaboration and joint projects across the biomedical landscape.

It gathered over 600 participants from 25 countries

featuring talks from world-leading scientists representing institutions such as the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, Wellcome Sanger Institute, TU Dresden, University of Groningen, BioNTech, TRON Therapeutics, Icosagen, Cytiva, and others.

Today, two years later, BioGENext has evolved into a vibrant community of more than

1,000

Ukrainian and international researchers, uniting key universities, research institutions, and laboratory suppliers

— all contributing to the growth of Ukraine’s biomedical ecosystem.

March 2025
Launch of the BioGENext Series educational and scientific events

The BioGENext Series is primarily an educational initiative, designed to bring cutting-edge scientific knowledge directly to the biomedical research community. It focuses on sharing practical knowledge and hands-on experience in specific methods, research pipelines, and data analysis workflows that drive cutting-edge biomedical research and development.
